We present Weingut Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2023, a benchmark dry Riesling from one of Germany’s most revered steep-slope vineyards, classified as VDP.Grosse Lage. The Halenberg, a dramatically inclined south-facing hillside of blue slate and quartzite, yields small-berried fruit of remarkable concentration, giving rise to one of the great terroir wines of the Nahe.

Tasting Notes: On the nose, the 2023 Halenberg GG is deeply complex and refined, with notes of crushed rock, smoke and iodine framing layers of candied and fresh citrus, including Meyer lemon, alongside hints of herbs and cool stone. As it opens, delicate yellow fruit and subtle floral nuances emerge, adding dimension without diminishing its emphatically mineral core.

On the palate, the wine is dense, powerful and yet strikingly precise, combining a tightly coiled, saline structure with great length and persistence. A fine, lively acidity drives the concentrated citrus and stone-fruit flavours across the palate, while the strongly salty, smoky and rock-inflected finish underscores its radical, terroir-focused character and outstanding aging potential.
